We ADOPTED!!

Ok, I had NO idea you could adopt a family for Christmas… such a great idea! I’m so glad Tracy King, Kent FitCamp trainer suggested we do it in conjunction with your holiday party. She has had experience with doing one in the past through the YWCA, but we decided to see if we could find a family from the high school we use for FitCamp in Kent. My hubby Alfred visited Debbie, Kent Meridian High’s admin, and she already had a list of families needing assistance this year. There was a single mother family of 3 and many others she had offered, but Alfred chose a family of 7 whose mother is undergoing surgery soon.

The family has a 1 yr. old girl, 2 yr. old girl, 9 yr. old boy, 14 yr. old boy, and 17 yr. old KM high schooler. Alfred asked for names, ages, and a list of wishes and needs. I have to admit that when I first saw that list… OMG, it was so long and I thought there would be no way we’d get it all. Everything from basics like underwear, diapers, & deodorant to bubble bath, Converse shoes, Levi’s jeans, and Sean John cologne. They wanted food that could be easily prepared while mom recovers from surgery and also Winco gift cards to help with the groceries of SEVEN people.

FitChicks YOU came through!! 11 bags of groceries, winter clothes, warm pajamas, dolls & toys, books, Spiderman comforter set, shoes, V-tech learning systems, hair & bath accessories, and Target/ Winco/ AMC theatre gift cards. You bought gifts for everyone including Mom and Dad! Many of you went above and beyond, buying something for every member instead of picking one gift or a person on the list. I am VERY moved by your generosity. We are all blessed to be a blessing!! So happy that we will be making a difficult time of the year just a little bit easier for this struggling family.

This isnt it!! 5 more huge bags of gifts arrived.

I’d like to hear what helping this family meant or felt like for you. Why did you give so much to strangers you’ve never met? Hope to hear your comments below…..

wow. that is amazing.. way to go !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. This was an fantastic day of giving. Debbie, Kent Meridian's Campus manager, said she's going to cry when she hands the gifts over to the family. Fitchicks…you're amazing…

  3. Valerie Medina Jones : it blew me away when I dropped off all of the food, tons of gifts and gift a few cards to Winco, Target and so on. They also received 6 movie tickets so that the family could go to the movies together. The mom goes into surgery tomorrow. They expect her to be in the hospital for a week or so. We are all blessed to be a blessing.

In most cases a simple smile warms a compassionate heart. I liken this to 1 huge smile from out community. I wish I could see the smiles from the family. I hope Debbie gets a picture if they are comfortable with this.
